While I rest my old brain, fried completely by the never-ending cutting out issue, is there anybody out there that has experience of Ross-Tech VCDS Lite free version hooked up to 2L 8V ADY engine ECU? Problem is, I have e-mailed RossTech support twice now and not had a reply. I would basically like to know that if I pay the $99 to register the VCDS lite, will it do everything I should ever need it to do? In particular, I may have to replace the ECU, would VCDS Lite be able to code the new ECU to the immobiliser? Or, is there other software or scan tools I should be looking at? Ta.

VCDS will do most jobs on an ADY but not immobilisers coding, I think full VCDS may, it's too long ago! VCDS certainly won't do the immobilser on modern cars.

Thanks mate. Exactly what I thought. I am at a bit of a loss now, no, a lot of a loss now. I received my pressure testing kit yesterday, and can confirm that fuel pressure is perfect and does not drop when engine cuts out. It is still holding at about 2.8 bar after cutting out about 45 minutes ago. I can see pressure regulator is working perfectly by disconnecting the vacuum hose. I have spoken to 2 (so-called) local independent VW/Audi specialists, both say they do not have the means to code a replacement ECU to my car should I be able to source one. I cannot think of anything else to try now. I have put so many hours into that car, doing all the welding, re-painting completely etc. it would break my heart to scrap it, it still looks so good. My thoughts are that the fault has to be linked to some component getting hot and cooling down, otherwise how could it be so consistent? You would think that it would just fail completely, then the car would never start again until that component was changed.
