Dash like traffic lights then everything goes off on dash whist driving

Please can someone help me with this very odd situation.

The dash starts coming up with all warnings you can think of, brakes, power steering, hand brake, tyre pressure, do not drive fault. The whole dash illuminates and then everything starts to turn off on the dash with warnings saying do not drive and the speedometer goes to zero and then the whole dash go off and I can't use indicators or any lights. Literally can only drive without anything on dash, it's as though the car has been switched off.

This has happened on 2 separate occasions, both when I have the car loaded to go to the skip. After unloading the car, and switching on and off, warning lights start to disappear a and eventually everything is back to normal. It's so weird.

I've checked on Carista app and on first occasion I had 137 faults and on second occasion I had 87. Where do I go from there, impossible to diagnose.

Any help would be appreciated please

How old is the car? Is it the original battery? What you describe is not uncommon and usually an indiction that the battery is on its way out and needs replacing.

I have had this on a failing alternator too.

So, as soon as it happened the first time, I went straight to Halfords and got my battery checked, it was fine. The guy said just give it a good run and it's grand. It's about 2 and half years old.

So which route do I take ? Alternator or battery change ??

Battery is about 2 and a half years old. It had a 3 yr warranty I think
