I’ve lost one of the chrome wing mirror covers from our A4 cab, so have sourced a replacement. I think the previous ones were held on with the std 3M or similar, double sided foam/tape.

should I use something like superglue on the tape, or something that’ll have a little more ‘give’ in it, like silicone or something?

I have had a lot of success sticking things back together with Dow Corning RTV. It won’t be affected by water.
