Hello, looking to get a nice Mk 6, when i see a nice example available.

had several MK4 TDIs but dont know much about this model.

just wondered which are the best and most reliable engines ?

i will consider a petrol or diesel.

thanks to anyone who can help.

No Golf 6 TDI is Euro 6 emissions so bear that in mind regarding these new tax, sorry, emissions zones. The two TDI engines can suffer some terrible problems such as porous heads, EGR unit failure, broken cranks, failed turbo's, injectors (£500 each!) and the 1.6 CAYC is the worst one. All the petrol engines are fragile with timing chain failure being a constant pain although there is the 1.4 (CGGA) belt drive engine which is sturdy but rare. The absolute disaster of the bunch is the 1.4 TFSI (CAVD) which is one of the worst engines I have ever had the displeasure of working with. Apart from the R, the only Golf 6 I would buy is a 2013 GTI with impeccable service history and still keep an ear on those chains but these are fetching strong money, my business partner recently sold his 2012 that he had owned for four years and got £3k more than he paid for it.
