I brought my 2.0tsi Scirocco last year. It's a 17 plate and had just over 7000 on the clock when I brought it.
A week after buying it I got a fault that turned out to be the front off side ABS sensor. The garage told me to get it replaced and they refunded me, happy days.
Know almost a year later the front nearside has failed. I have just replaced it, luckly the retaining screw and the ABS sensor come out without a fight.
My question is are the VW ABS sensors a common problem? Its seems unlucky to have the first one go after 7000 miles and four years old, now followed by the opposite side a year later.

Both of them were rather young but it happens, apparently aggressive wheel cleaners upset them and the cast iron surround expands as it rusts and crushes them.

Thanks for the reply Crasher. I must just be unlucky. I wondered if it was a bad batch of sensors at a particular year.
I don't use any wheel cleaners other than a sponge and elbow grease! I did not get to see the first sensor as the garage replaced it.
The one I replaced yesterday looked fine with no pick up on the tip. I did wonder if something had damaged it but it looked fine.
Oh well just bad luck I guess !
