    Thanks Dean

In all these months, and after a number of garages and mechanics, not a single one has asked me whether it had been replaced, or suggested it should be... (they were suggesting potential causes like the injectors, injector loom, exhaust, ECU corruption and other far harder to track down potential causes). If they had, I would have changed it out months ago! I didn't even know it was a possible cause of power problems like this until I started looking at it myself last week.

I do lose faith in these mechanics. I don't think they know half as much as they suggest or think they do....

Ignore the chain driven part as yours is geared but pay attention to the balancer shaft keyway and 77mm oil pump drive part.

What exactly are you saying Mickey - because it sounds an awful lot like you just called me a liar in writing...

You are being a bit sensitive there I understood his meaning and with no sense of calling you a liar. I think he was saying what I was thinking, he/I can't make sense of the symptoms and cure as I like to understand why things happen although to a certain extent I have given up asking why and just accept the fix.

    Thanks Crasher

I don't especially understand the cure -v- symptoms either, but what I've reported here on this thead are facts. I don't understand why, when the solenoid was fitted, she was immediately (mostly) ok, then prgressively degraded back to really awful again through the 60 odd miles that were driven from being fitted. This does not make sense to me at all - I would expect something new, when fitted, to either work immediately or not work. Not to work, and then rapidly get overruled by another system or issue like this.

However, I don't expect the voracity of what I've written to be called into question in any way. I come onto this forum hoping to find some expertise to help me work out what might be going wrong in a certain scenario. I bothered to update with the cure and resolution (unlike most people), as I hope that it will go on to help others who might experience the same or similar symptoms in the future. This is why I contribute to and use forums.

The more I've looked since the fix was found, "fuel filter" comes up pretty much as the No. 1 suspected culprit in all diesel engine power problems everywhere. I still can't understand why no mechanic suggested we look at it, or change it - at all! I still can't believe I didn't complete this most simple of google searches myself 6 months ago... My friend, who was looking at it at the weekend and fitted it amongst a couple of other things, is a main ******* master mechanic, and even he hadn't thought of it - and described my suggestion as a "good shout".... (after having already replaced the turbo for me). It's just so unbelivably frustrating sometimes.

When someone writes: "This cure to me certainly does not add up in my book" - as far as I can see, it can only be read to say: "Your reported cure is BS". There are no grounds to challenge what I've written, as I've stated facts at every step, on every thread. To do otherwise would make me somewhat psychopathic, to have wasted everyone's time, including my own.
