Hi all, recently out and about and the car just cut out, wouldn’t restart. It cranks but won’t fire, has a PO726 fault code suggesting crank sensor issue.

Mat sound like a daft question but which plug is the crank sensor on these? Anyone have a decent picture of where it sits?

    Thanks In advance

The fault code on your bre engine code po726 covers a multitude location at the moment does not matter. This can be checked out via ecu pin outs b42 & b58 & b57. The pin no b57 is the switched ecu earth wire colour black I would be inclined to check out this earthing first & foremost

Ah so check theres a continuity between b57 & engine/body earth?

Any pin outs for the ecu available?

I’d wondered If there’d be more to this lol. Can’t say I’ve come across any disconnected or broken wiring while I’ve been looking around the engine yet though

The G28, it is on the crank oil seal holder down inside the bellhousing through an access hole. You need a very good quality shar, new, ball ended 4mm long hex key, I keep a Snap Off one specially for this job and take great care doing it because if you round out the head of the bolt it is gearbox out flywheel off. It is worth noting that on these, condensation in the EGR flap motor can cause a false error for the G28.

Is it accessible without removing any other parts? I presume so but fiddly?

What causes the condensation in the EGR? I’m the run up to the breakdown the car hadn’t been used a lot would this have contributed?

    Cheers 👍

Message me the reg or post the VIN so I can check on Elsa if the EGR idea applies to yours, the moisture gets in there from the exhaust fumes which contain water.

    Hi mate, any news?

Garage seem to think the crankshaft sensor is the fault but are saying it’s a definite gearbox off job to sort. I presume it's doable without though? Is there an access hole specifically to get to the bolt?

    Cheers
