Flashing power steering warning light (not the usual)

My 2011 Passat CC has developed an interesting problem in that the power steering light flashes (although) dimly when the left turn indicator is operating. I assume this is an earth problem but was wondering if anyone has come across this before and where the earth fault might be?

That will be an internal cluster fault, as you say a poor earth pulling an LED up.
