HI folks im normally on the c7 forum but when browsing info on the new A6 I dont see a 3.0 bi-turbo, have Audi dropped this engine on the A6/A7 platforms or am I missing something.
    thanks in advance.

No Bi-Turbo Diesel offered on the C8 A6. The S6 on the C8 platform has a diesel engne and in effect replaces the old BiTurbo

The S6 is a sort of bi-turbo diesel
It uses the same 3Litre engine as 50tdi but there is a support from little electric turbine using 48V mild hybrid battery which takes away any lag.
It is a beast! It produces 350bhp and 700NM. As it uses strong tiptronic gearbox same as old diesel bi-turbo or RS6 you can easily remap the engine to 430 approx bhp without a risk.
Anyway the car in stock accelerates less than 5s from 0-60 so there is no need to do it.
One more thing worth to mention is that 50tdi with single turbo produces 286bhp and 620Nm which is not far from S6 numbers. Paying 20k for S6 seems to be questionable.

thanks for the info so looks like Audi are phasing the bi-turbo out though i can see what he means about paying the extra for the S6, hardly worth it really.

With the forthcoming move to Euro7 and the longer term move to all electric I think it is safe to say that all car manufacturers will be rationalising their ICE engine range. No point in spending millions of Euros on updating an engine that is only purchased in small numbers and will have a finite lifespan
