Hello everyone , happy new year

Driving home last night and on a roundabout my power steering went , glow plug light started flashing and I noticed a loss of power. I pulled over and smoke was bellowing out and the whole of the engine bay was covered in diesel and leaking on to the road. I tried to start the car and noticed diesel ******* out of the high pressure fuel pipe that feeds from the pump to the rail. This is the second time this has happened now, the pipe was only replaced a few months back and it's happened again! The union nut is tight etc ...

Could some thing else be causing this problem ?
And does anyone know why my PS goes. Is it because when the diesel explodes it covers the belt / pulley and makes it all slippy ?

At a guess your high pressure fuel pump bracket has snapped allowing your pump to move which has snapped your fuel line. Possibly got some sheared bolts too where the bracket has moved.
Big job and bracket was unavailable from audi when mine went, part number ends with a J i think its now available and revised but not cheap. £400 is for the bracket alone.
    Hope that helps

    Thank you Dean
AS it goes when I checked to see if the union nut was tight i did notice the fuel pump rocking and at the time I thought it was a bit strange

Yeah i had my pipe break, just fitted a new one, wasn’t till that snapped a few weeks later i looked deeper,
To try and save you some time, i had my bracket welded, that didn’t last either.

Thanks for your help mate, I just now need to decide wether or not its worth doing any thing with it especially at that age and mileage
Only thing is its stuck in a lay by on a dual carriageway and gonna cost a ton or so to get it moved and if it's going for scrap anyway then it's not really worth it
May as well just phone Scrapyard directly and ask them to pick it up on side of road, I don't know if they will though ?

seems mad to write it off for a bracket. My 07 A6 is at the stage where it will need a bit of money and TLC going forward, but think of your carbon foot print - how much it would go up gettign a new car lol - and the finance long term rather than a short term payout now and then.

yes might just be a bracket but it's a whole chain off job and if the pump has been wobbling around for that long who knows what other damage has been done. It is not economical for me to repair at 305k but i've put it up for sale so if some one wants to repair they're more than welcome too and as for carbon print give it a rest you drive a 3.0 v6 diesel ...

The chain doesn’t need to be touched thats on the rear of the engine, but you will need to take the pump off and the pump belt, air intake tracks probably put front end into service position and i had 2 snapped bolts that had to be drilled and sorted out, and there is not much room. Its not a 5 minute job.
