I’ve just changed my handbrake cables for new genuine parts (1K0 609 721 BE) but in the process of removing them I broke one of the guide sleeves / tubes that go through the body (1K0 711 952 A).

    How are these replaced?

I also struggled to get the new cables into the guide tubes (even with some grease).

If anyone has done this before please let me know.

    Thank you.

    Thank you willdude.

Hope it helped you, the rubbers themselves tend to dry out.

The little black plastic is a removable grommet, it may have been this preventing you inserting it.

If you want to ask me something directly (my.name@gmail.com) or feel free to pm me on here if you're still stuck and don't get a response from anyone.

I recently replaced the handbrake cable and sleeve on a golf. I found it straight forward, you're best doing it from inside the car with the seat up etc, and access to the guide tube etc.. start by fitting the guide tube from inside the car to the outside, you'll see the old Vw black sticky pad which will visually help to put it in the correct position.

It will be awkward if you're trying to put the tube and cable in from the outside first.

Much easier, when I was under the car it was a hassle, because you can't see the routing. Once I ripped up the rear bench / carpet, it was done in minutes and a lot easier to troubleshoot
