    Hello,

I have bought a cheap golf as a run around was working fine until the other day I went out and it wouldn't start. Checked voltage on battery and was showing just over 12v and engine was spinning freely, plugged in the Carista and it was not able to connect to the ECM or the OBD2, a lot of the modules have code 01314 logged with no communication to the ECM. I have checked the fuses and all seem to be good (checked with an old LED bulb and using the fuses as an inline fuse).

I have removed the ECU and all pins look to be free from damage and oxidization.

Checked the voltage on t94a plug on 3, 5, 6 which is a switched live but only works if I jump the relay. Earth present on pin 1, 2, 4

The relay 100 in the engine bay seems to not be clicking on but jumping this relay then send the power to the ECU but the engine still doesn't fire.

Car is a 2008 VW golf mk5 with the BMN pd170 engine

To me it is more the dreaded BMN, a foul smelling eye watering environmental disaster; can you communicate with all the other controllers such as ABS and dash? I know it sounds daft but get the ECU nice and warm then try it.

The main control relay 0n this model fires up ecu pin nos 3-5-6. fuel pump relay. glow plug control module. oxygen sensor. clutch position sensor. turbo pressure relay. exhaust gas cooler solenoid.inlet manifold tuning. If you ecu is not responding check you have 12vs permanent at term 16 & check earth at pin nos 4 pulsed earth & pin 5 chassis ground. When you bridged relay terminals marked 30 & 87 you were by passing pin 87 coil supply voltage. you should of earthed terminal 86 to see if all these units is being fired up

When I checked the voltage I 3-5-6 was getting power but only if I jumped the relay, I put a known working relay in and still no power to pins.

When you say term 16 do you mean pin 16 on the t94 plug?

    I have earth's at 1-2-3 on the

I will also earth pin 86 and give that a go

Also I don't get a fuel pump prime sound or a glow plug light so I assume I'm not getting power to them either

Check the three power feeds to pins 3, 5 and 6 of the 94 pin plug have an ignition live power feed from fuse 13 in the engine bay fuse box and pin 18 has an ignition live feed from fuse 2 in the dash side fuse board

With the relay plugged in I have no power going to pin 3 5 6 and nothing at fuse 13

With a jumper cable plugged in I get power at pin 3 5 6 and fuse 13

Pin 18 I'm getting 3v with jumper and nothing with relay

Without power at SB13 (the engine bay main fuse box is called SB) the ECU has no power so if you jump the relay sockets respective to 30 and 87 you restore power BUT you are not addressing why the relay is not operating. It is earth triggered by the ECU and has dedicated constant live unfused power from fuse SB 10 and this line also supplies the relay contact 30 with power. If fuse SB10 is blown/missing it has no affect on anything else. With the relay positions 30 and 87 jumped and power restored to the ECU proves the feed to 30 and SB10 are present so fuses SB 10, 13, 14, 15, 21, 22, 23 and 24 should have battery power with the relay terminals jumped. I will email you the wiring diagram as I am going to be off until the 4th so I will be able to help further, but it is in German.
