Hi sorry if this is the wrong place to post but I just have a quick question regarding digital service history.

I am looking at getting my car booked in for a lot of routine service work - I have found a really good, reputable and honest independent vag specialist who were so helpful over the phone.
The only issue is, they say that don't have access to erWin to update my digital service history but they can give me a fully itemised and detailed invoice listing all the work carried out.

My question is would this be ok? my car is a 2017 and I'm looking to keep it for a few years yet. My only concern is if this will cause any issues when I come to sell the car in the future?

The garage (who I won't mention) is not "cheap" but is a reasonable price, it's not far off main dealer prices. Obviously the main dealer would update erWin but I'd rather give my business to an independent - should I go ahead and book this one or look for another?

    Many thanks in advance

They should get registered, it is easy and free for a VAT registered company. If your cars records are not on the DSS correctly it surely will degrade the cars value even if it is unwarranted as buyers will use any leverage they can pick up on… including pouring a small bottle of oil all over the turbo with your back turned talking to their mother who is the “money” when “inspecting” the engine.

    Thanks for your views Crasher!

I didn't mention the garage as they are know to this forum (all positive) and don't want it to impact them - maybe I didn't ask right and I should re-call them to confirm - or maybe I need a trip up to Nottingham!

I actually know a a neighbour who was selling their car and someone had come to view and poured oil in their coolant reservoir to get the price down! People are nuts these days!

I would have thought that one of the reasons of going to an independent VAG specialist would be specifically because they'd have access to erwin etc! I'd certainly expect it.

We've just taken our 15 year old BMW to a BMW specialist and they were able to update the online history etc. Again, i expected this.

That he tried it on with a mechanic/garage proprietor outside my workshop was a surprise, if his mother had not been there I think I may have lost my temper. Even worse he called the next day to see if I would sell it to him cheap because of the leak, my language was not professional! Apparently there has been a spate of this in the London area and the Police are now treating such actions as attempted fraud.
