Thanks for the info on boost levels. (And you got a point about the diesel shop, but i have bad experience with shops in general, and also i would have to rip everything out of the truck.)

I did post engine code (ATA) and vin number (Vw1zzz2dzyh026313). And also the topic of the thread is all about the engine.

And the 2.8 liter does not have needle lift sensor?

    Ok, new update.

After installing an egt gauge, today i had to go pick up a trailer.

On the way there, egt was 550-600 _C_, just cursing at 80 km/h.

On the way back, still with no load just truck and trailer empty (dragging some wind how ever), egt stayed at about 600 - 800 C, in slight grades it passed 900 a few times.

    Sensor is pre turbo.

    To me, it seams high.

What is it supposed to be. How high is safe?

Ok, update, and problem solved. So if anyone else find this thread looking for the same answer, here goes.

I pulled of the turbo, nothing wrong there, replaced the exhaust at the same time.

The IP fired a little late, so i set it to the earliest recommended setting. Small improvement.

Tested the injectors, all good. (I can recommend getting an injector tester for anyone who work on old diesels, they can be found online for less than the cost of a single injector.)

Pressure tested the inter cooler. No leaks.

Then the intake manifold. A lot of air going somewhere, but did not notice any particular leaks, until i removed the intake. There was a piece of the gasket actually missing, under the intake, at the far back. I made a new gasket, and the problem was gone.

Lots of power, boost is back, EGT is down.
