    Hi guys

I've not been on here for some time as I've not had a VW or an Audi for a little while, not in name anyway.

    Alas,

A mate has just bought an 09 plate Passat, 2.0 TDI CR. 130 or 140 brake, can't remember. Anyway, he's having a couple of issues.
Firstly, Engine fan run on after switching ignition off. Not all the time, then some times it will take 2 or 3 attempts at restarting the car and switching it back off again for the fan to turn off. It's not a thing he's ever had on any other he's ever driven. So he, and myself, are a bit puzzled.

Secondly. He's getting a message come up on occasion that says steering fault or something. He says it's happened a few time in the 4 months he's had the car.

Any ideas are much appreciated. I'm passenger in this car every other week too for the commute to work, so any help is greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

It sounds like it is trying to do a regeneration of theDPF and also suffering from a weak battery, this platform is EXTREMELY sensitive to even a slightly below 12v voltage.

Cooling fans has to be controlled that allows the engine to maintain a a constant temperature. This is controlled via coolant temperature sensor feed back to the ecu which is dependant on this feedback. Check out coolant temp sensor wiring check ohms reading hot & cold

Thanks Mickeybo, I told my friend and he did the sensor last weekend. Not had the issue since. We do a 115 round trip every day, so plenty of time to find out. lol.
