Hi, new member, desperately need some advice from people who might know what to do.

My son has just bought an Avant 3.0 V6 Le Mans. On viewing it seemed really decent, drove well, didnt smoke etc. It had a couple of issues we noticed like a Sidelight bulb fault - depite the light working, and the auto boot lid doesn't lift although it does unlatch, but we didn't think too much of it.
It was only once we got home and had more time that we realised there are a few little niggles. I did a lot of research and it seemed others had had similar issues and diagnosed it as a module that had been replaced and needed coding.

I took the car to a VAG specialist (not an Audi dealer), and they've run a full diagnostic. They managed to easily fix one issue which was the rear sensors not working, but they said that both the CCM and Can Gateway have been replaced and need recoding to this car.
They said that while they technically can do it, they won't as they may get into trouble.

I've just spoken to an Audi dealer and he wants to run another full diagnostic scan, at an extra £150, incase it's just a 'broken wire, or a faulty fuse'. I said that i didn't want to pay for another diagnostic, (i've already spent almost £400 having the first one done along with the rear sensors).
The dealer said that if the modules have already been coded to a car it is impossible to recode them to my son's car, and the only option will be for him to buy brand new units and have them fitted and coded by Audi. I asked how much and he wasn't sure. So i said likely 100's and he said 'Yes, it will be well into 4 figures fitted'.

I really don't know what to do now. My son has literally spent everything he has, plus what i could lend him, to buy this car. There just isn't the money available for brand new modules on a 14 year old car, no matter how good condition it's in.
Can anyone give me an idea of what we might be able to do to sort it out? Or somewhere that would be able to code the modules for us? Whilst i don't want us to do anything illegal i am concerned that with these units not functioning correctly it may compromise safety, or stop air bags or someother safety feature from deploying in the event of an accident.

Thanks for reading this and any help you can give.

Hmmm did they say if the modules were component protected? If they are Audi or any independent with ODIS and online access can look to resolve that, im pretty certain Audi have the ability to sort the coding out too, my C7 had the from ACC Sensors failed and i fitted used and took it in to be coded, told them what i had done, they charged me 1.5 hours labour.

It may need to go on the dealer system ODIS using the GEKO security system to put the VIN based component protection right. I have an A4 here that someone fitted a used engine ECU to and it scrambled the coding and component protection on 15 or the 21 modules in the car

Thanks for the replies. They haven't said whether they are component protected, or anything other than - all of the faults I reported are caused by the two modules. I've got the full printout of the diagnostic tests but I don't really know what I'm looking for.
The dealer I think, really wants to sell us new ones, but that's out of the question.
If he won't do it then I need to find someone with an Audi system that can do it.
I'm based near Tamworth so there must be someone fairly near who'd do it. I notice both of you guys who have replied are not that far away in Dudley and Nottingham, so I might end up bringing it to one of your dealers if need be.

I had a similar issue with a BMW I had.
    Find an independent dealer.
Slip the guy in the shop with a $50 and get him to do the recoding whilst he takes the car for a test drive.
