    Hi All,
I'm collecting my 'new' C5 Allroad 2.7T 2001 this weekend that has come in from Japan having done the equivalent of only 46k miles. The car is in unbelievable condition for a 20 year old vehicle but I'm wondering if it would be prudent to have the automatic gearbox oil and filter changed due to its age rather than mileage ? It looks like a job for a specialist from what I've seen on YouTube ! It's driving perfectly so, whilst I don't believe in the 'sealed for life' ethos for any type of oil system, which makes me lean towards changing it, there is also the 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' school of thought ?
I'll obviously drive it for a bit to start with but I'd appreciate any thoughts people have on the subject and whether it is as important as it is on say a Range Rover to prolonging the life of the box ?
    Cheers

Good luck, this car will keep you busy but you will get rewarded. Transmission oil change in this vehicle is important! The frequency of replacement depends on the form of driving, for example I drive relatively moderately and change transmission oil and filter every 100,000 kilometers. You should also think about changing the differential oil (3).

Yes it is a very good idea, those boxes like breaking their internals, especially the reverse drum. The engine in your car can REALLY try your patience, look after the turbo’s with “spool and cool” after a run and 5k oil changes as they are an engine out job.

Thanks both for your advice which has definitely swayed my decision to change the gearbox and diff oils sooner rather than later. Engine oil changes at 5k are already part of my maintenance routine for my cars but sounds like that's going to be the least of my worries with this engine ! I'm probably going to now frighten myself reading about the potential problems I can expect....
