Hello VWAudi, my first post here though I've been active in other VW forums over the years!

My 2006 Touran tailgate won't latch shut or lock.

The tailgate fits flush to the bodywork i.e. it is not that the lock has become latched shut when the tailgate is open. But the lock will not latch closed, when I drive along it bounces open.

Using VCDS output test I can hear a very faint click coming from the lock but nothing else. Using the key fob does nothing, pressing the boot handle (microswitch) does nothing.

Do I need a new lock? Solenoid?

    many thanks

It could be corrosion from the rear wiper washer tube fitting leaking and dripping screen wash into the catch

I've removed the tailgate panel, it's all clean and dry.

Disconnect the solenoids operating arm and operate it in basic settings but I think you need a new catch unit.

I replaced the lock (part 1T0827505F) and the grab rail/microswitch (part 1T0827574L) with pattern parts from Amazon. Both were very cheap, so I'll keep an eye on their reliability. It's all working fine at the moment.

It was very difficult to remove the wiring plug from the old lock and I ended up breaking the plastic, which is annoying because it now doesn't securely latch onto the new lock and is more susceptible to water ingress. I added a cable tie and gaffer tape.

    Thanks for the advice.
