The BKD does not have a balancer system, simple chain driven oil pump

Duh , wrong engine then, my mistake. Oil pressure test, if its too low, either blocked pump or big ends and main bearings usually. Long life servicing?

The BKD bottom end (engine generally) is pretty robust, I have seen them take some obscene abuse and be fine

Thanks for the advice. Garage has checked the car and 1st thing theyve noticed is no fuel going into pump? They had a spare working fuel pump which they are putting in. Surely that cant be it?

Do you have a link for the oil pump for my engine? @Crasher

Yes the BKD is like the BKP there, well just about identical. What do you mean by a link for the oil pump?

The pump is VAG part number 03G 115 105 and £239.70 from VW, it has been perfectly reliable, never revised and is available from a number of sources, If I did need to replace one I would use the Febi 102507

You might have an oil pressure light coming up from continuous cranking. Which is probably because you've got no fuel from pump.
