Hi, I'm new to all the maintenance on Audi's and I'm looking for some advice as to which software, specialist tools, cables etc I would require to undertake general maintenance on the vehicle i.e. Engine oil changes, fuel filter changes, gearbox oil change and filters, updating MMI (if needed), changing breaks and disc, not much more than this. I'd like to change the oil on a yearly basis irrelevant of mileage. I'm sure these hi-tech PC's on wheels need some sort of OBD reader, I noticed mentions of VAG-COM which uses a USB module for the Lap-Top that will manage brake piston rewinds etc, but is this overkill for just the general maintenance mentioned... Any help advice links to items required would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
the best tool is the Vag-COM tool. It loads up on a laptop, plugs in with a USB the OBD port under the steering wheel.
it’ll loosen the rear calipers, reset warning lights and allow you to change bits too.

front brakes are easy and need no tools, the same for the oil and filter changes. Gearbox fluid change is much harder…. I usually take mine to the Audi shop or VAG specialist for that.
updating MMI is do-able as I have, but it is easy to mess up, so be careful. Ebay usually has MMI sellers. But check if you need it/have to have it.

Thanks for the advice A8Crusier. I think I'll leave the MMI for any firmware update, it currently works, but is jammed open. Will the Vag-com (VCDS) be required to change the fuel filter or can this be replaced without? Also, with regards to to the gearbox fluid change, do you know if there is a drain plug and separate fill point, as I have done this on a Disco without too many issues, but never replaced the filter, which I believe you have to completely remove the bottom cover. If this is the case do you have to replace the gasket as well before fitting. If anyone knows please could you advise. thanks.

Thanks for the advice Crasher, please could you recommend any good OEM parts companies to purchase services parts i.e. oil, air, fuel filters, gearbox service parts etc or is GSF, Euro Car Parts or Ebay the best options to source them? Thanks
