Thanks for your help fellers, the stuttering has gone [for the time being]. Don't know if it was the Redex or it just cleared itself. What I think happened was not Applegreen petrol per se but the place that I filled up from had a contaminated tank . When I stopped going there the alarm stopped coming up [I was just clearing it with VCDS before MOT ] It was F- - -ing stupid I know . It has cost me the 2 cats and time and money to put the new ones on.
I think the fuel filter got partially blocked and that meant I was running lean [not sure about the fuel trims think they didn't show it or I was too thick to work it out]. I will now go and get a fuel filter from either GSF or Europarts and do what I should have done 20 k miles ago .

Fitted a new fuel filter.Struggled a bit [ I'm now 75 yrs old] . The old one was full of dark brown s - - t. That may have been restricting pump pressure. We'll see as I'll keep it on the ramps a bit to clean off the rust on the rear suspension which has bits flaking off it.

Don't know what happened but my reply's seem to have gone missing. Anyway I changed the fuel filter and have watched the mpg and for any missing/stuttering uneven running. So far so good. There was a lot of muck in the filter hadn't been changed in years so that probably didn't help. it had been on a couple of ramps with it's nose in the air for about six weeks so may be the fuel lines had dried out a bit.
