    Hi all,
We’ve had our 2016 Q7 from new - Audi extended warranty just run out and decided to keep for years to come, I’d welcome views on preventative maintenance - previous car was a diesel Range Rover (disastrously unreliable but lovely) so I’m going off that to a large extent…

Usage - done 40k miles over 4 years, mix of v short school runs and longer journeys at weekends. Has had main dealer service every year, so 8-10k intervals

Battery - not had any problems but I wonder if £200 at Halfords is peace of mind

DPF - we do get active regens from time to time - can’t quantify but seems to be more often now, and sometimes doesn’t make sense - eg do a 100 mile journey on Sunday, 6 mile school run on Monday and it’s doing a regen after that - seems odd. I dread to think about 5he cost as it’s used most days so can’t send it off to be cleaned for a week

EGR - the previous Range Rover had a blocked egr, which took out a turbo and was a £5k cost. I’ve also have a Bmw 330d which was part of an EGR cooler recall, so £500 proactively buts peace of mind

suspension - we have the air suspension which is fantastic but I assume it requires some sort of maintenance as it must be wear and tear. The Range Rover airbag went but was covered by warranty so I never had to pay…

    Any advice gratefully received

I can't comment on the Q7 specifically, as I am on my first one: it's 2017, 100k Km and still like new as far as I can see and has caused me zero problems. However I had my previous car, a diesel VW Phaeton for 9 years and 260,000Km (162k miles)had very similar air suspension and had zero issues in my time. It did had a serious random engine failure, the only time the car failed me, due to an injector pump that ate itself. Otherwise the car left me with the original 2x 12v batteries, and all systems working perfectly and cosmetically a lovely car. So my general view is: don't abuse it, do the routine maintenance, use common-sense and keep an eye for any gremlins and cross your fingers tightly. Without denigrating Range Rovers (all my neighbours have them) but they do have a reputation... I believe there is a high level of lottery and personal usage pattern involved the reliability various owners experience.
