Grateful for any Help, Comment or Views,

Last night on my way home after starting my car and driving off from a steep hill, the Parking light Warning light started and the parking brake fails to operate. I did stop and tried to reset them to no avail and called out the AA. The mechanic was very helpful and check that the rear wheels were not binding and diagnosed the problem as likely to be the Parking Brake Button Electrical Button faults in the electrical circuit, he gave a Fault code of P098B. This code came from the Bosch diagnostic system he used. I understand that parking switch faults are fairly common as drinks often get spilt on the console? I have looked for this fault code but it does not appear on the Ross-Tech site and very limited information on the WWW, so any Ideas where I can get more information?
Today I have checked all the fuses and they are OK and done a hardware reset ( removed the battery earth lease for a few seconds), but no change to fault conditions.
I connected up VCDS and did a brake Caliper test under module 53 and that passed and the brake servos motors worked? However, the following code we highlighted:-

My next step is to order a Parking Brake switch which is going to be a bit of a faff to fit, so in the meantime, I thought I would ask if anybody has had a similar problems with their parking Brake? So I would be grateful for any Help, Comments or Views,

    BR,

01087 - Basic Setting Not Performed - I haven't been there done that but from this error i would try a re-learn, as if you had changed pads. it might get you away but there must be something else up for it to forget its settings?

    Dear All,

I replaced the Parking brake switch, but be warned that A6 C6 parking switch 4F2927225A is for lefthand drive cars, but mine is righthand drive and needed 4F2927225B. Alas, I did not read the small print and ordered the A version. However, with minor modifications to the bottom of the old button lever, I swapped the parts to get the correct curvature profile on the MMI console. It took quite a bit of work to clear the fault codes and reset the parking brake with the VCDS, but all fault code cleared and the parking brake reset and work fine now! it took a few hours to do as there is a lot of trim to remove and put back on the central MMI console.

    BR,

    Oobals
