    On my 4.2 tdi D3.

I have access to Vag-COM. But I keep seeing conflicting methods to release the calipers on the EPB.
some use the release brake method in the menu and then seem to be able to just push the pistons back in.
Others use the release caliper method and wind the pistonss back in with the 3 pointed tool.

    which is correct?

Then you tell the menu you have new pads at 13 mm and it closes up OK.

    thanks.

From memory (not at work) the type 4E Audi A8 uses TRW rear calipers and winding them back in the style of the mechanical type destroys their internals; the brake pad thickness needs to be entered into the EPB ECU using a diagnostic system.

    Ace. Thank you.
Sounds like the same as the fronts, with use of a G-Clamp.

    Will give it a go.

I wouldn’t, you will need to apply pressure to the plastic motor body, thankfully I bought an ATE piston return tool about 40 years ago and hardly ever used it until these came along.

As long as the pressure is applied to the piston and the two fingers of the fist
