Hi all, my passenger rear door has never lined up properly since I bought the car a few years back. The lines on the chrome strip and below slight dip and if you look at the door line from the back of the car, the door is sticking out by about 2mm I think (hopefully the pictures will show this)
I can't see any damage to the rear panel, the door itself or the hinges it's attached to the pillar with, does anyone know what could cause this and more importantly can a moderately skilled spanner monkey (me) fix it without calling in the body shop

You should be able to bring that back in by moving the striker plate. With the plate off, hold the door closed and see if it now aligns, if it does then you need to get the plate back in slightly higher and further in, trial and error will get you there. If without the pin in place than the door needs “adjusting” and this can require the deft application of force so something I can’t go into but there is an 80’s video on YouTube apart the post build panel gap rectification on a Trabant and the process hasn’t really changed and this is the same factory where they now build the ID3 and bodies for Bentley and Lamborghini….

Thanks crasher, I taped around the striker plate so I knew where it was, then moved it further in and up a little and hey presto, the door closes and lines up
