Hi everyone I recently bought a car from a dealership, when I went to buy the car, it was cutting out power all on a sudden. The dealer said he got it fixed so I test drove the car and all fine, he said Audi reprogrammed the ECU which was the issue but it is doing it again. It cuts out at any RPM so I doubt it would the turbo as it cuts out even at below 2000 rpm and the car engine never stalls like fully off.Idle is perfectly stable so I doubt it’s the MAF or faulty injectors. I think it could be the fuel pump? Anyone could give me any suggestions on what could the problem be? The car is a Audi A3 8V 2.0TDI 2015 150ps STronic

Start with a full vehicle code read, print of the results, clear the codes, drive it again until it plays up and then re-read and print, post the results on here.

Hi Crasher thanks for your time apparently there are no codes stored into the ECU. Overnight I have read many other forums where owners spent a lot of money and time and it turned out to be their fuel pump. Even Audi said the car looks healthy and there is no issue and then here we go with the problem again.

If there were any fuel pressure issues they are picked up by the ECU and stored with time, date, speed, rpm etc info. About the only two devices that can randomly fail without leaving a code are the engine speed sensor and the ECU relay, if it was the crank speed sensor then this leaves a clue in that when the engine cuts out the rev counter reading drops to zero rather than following the speed at which the vehicles motion is turning the engine.

Hi crasher I will have a look into this and the engine has started to die evens when the car is idling but still the idle is stable on the car.

Very symptomatic of the crank speed sender.

Thanks for answering Crasher but I’m wondering why wouldn’t it throw a code on the dash?

It won’t bring on the Malfunction Indicator Light or the emissions light, in many cases even the ECU doesn’t register it as a fault.
