Hi need help with the following codes that have come up in the engine module....

    CEL is on dashboard.....

Is this a bad O2 sensor? It was replaced with a Bosch part not too long ago so I wouldn't think it was that.

Could that change from E5 to E10 unleaded fuel be causing an issue here?

    Any help would be appreciated.

It is possibly the use of E10 BUT you should not be using 95RON with a BAG code engine. If you look inside the fuel flap you will see a sticker which says 98/(95) RON which means you must use a minimum octane of 98 RON except in exceptional circumstances and with reduced power.

    OK thanks for the advice.

If 98RON was being used what could be causing these codes?

Prior to E10 being introduced I do remember running on 95RON with no issue really.

If correct fuel is being used what could be causing these codes?

    Thanks

The extra 5% of Ethanol could be causing the amount of trim applied by the ECU to exceed +10% but I just remembered these have a known problem with the wiring breaking in the section between the inner wing and the engine.

Have you got any images of the wiring issue?

is this the wiring to lambda sensor or ECU? Or another part?

No I haven't got any pictures of this on a Golf 5. The wiring goes directly from the Lambda sensors fly lead plug (on a bracket on the front of the gearbox) to the ECU without interruption where the wiring goes from the box to the body moves and can break but all the covering has to be stripped off to check.

Refilled the car with protection grade 99RON from shell (V power) and seemed to make a difference but the CEL came back on.....but has subsequently disappeared again after driving around...so appears to be intermittent.

the car does feel like it is running rough with and without the CEL on....I’m wondering if I’ve caused more damaged using E10 fuel perhaps, constricted the fuel lines or ruined the injector seals?

could this mean the wiring is knackered as described above?

does the wiring go bad in the scuttle area where it passes from Ecu to the engine bay?

i did do an overlay harness for the throttle body issue I had and that seemed to sort out another issue i had which put the car in limp mode.....depinned from the Ecu to the throttle body connector and replaced all 6 wires....

will need the wiring diagrams for the lambada sensor (pre cat) if I am going to replace the wiring entirely. Are you able to send these across to me if possible? Just need to know what to depin at the ecu connector and which connector at that too as there are two of them.

    thanks for your help.

I can't get it to print to file correctly, you can download everything for the car from https://erwin.volkswagen.de/erwin/showHome.do for €7 per hour

No worries I’ll take a look myself when I get a chance.

How much would it cost to replace the complete engine harness? And what is the part number?

The part number is 03C 972 619 M and it was £338.94 but went obsolete October last year and there is no UK TPS stock but I could not check the main dealers
