Steering wheel repair

Hi all;

I've got a Mk7 GTD and recently noticed a load of scuff/tear marks on the underside of the steering wheel. Bit puzzled at first, but then realised it was probs from the zip on either my jacket, or my joggers as I got into the car as; a) I like to drive with the seat quite far forward and; b) I'm a fat b*****d 🙄

Phoned my local VW garage and they've said they don't repair leather steering wheels, and a new one is over a grand! 😧

Anyone had a similar issue where the steering wheel is damaged? Any suggestions? (apart from losing weight! &#128580
