Cars just had an advisory for both headlight lenses. I’ve used a couple of the restoration kits previously with a bit of success, and applied a clear lacquer, which again wasn’t brilliant.

will saloon and avant headlights fit my 2003 B6 convertible, or only convertible headlights fit?

and what options do I have, other than a 2nd hand set from an auction site?

Only b6 cabbie units fit my friend,a lot of these refurb kits are not much cop, although you can make the lenses look better with polish or wet and dry sanding etc, you will probably not improve the lighting quality because the usual dimness is caused by the internal projector chrome ageing and going a bit yellow.
Unfortunately if you buy used items you might find that similarly aged units will be just as dim but still have nice clear lenses.
If your tester is only actually concerned buy how the lenses look, then there is only a bit of elbow grease and time to make an improvement possible.
Been there a couple of times with my old 2002 2.4 cabby
    Good luck

You need to sand the lights down with 1000, 2000 and finally 3000. Then I use Mequires plastic polish but the important part is having a high speed NON DA rotary polishing machine with a foam head and this way I can bring them up to look as new. The final trick is sealant, I have tried a few such as Optima from ECP and this works well and with and annual wipe, they stay looking good. The best result I found I tried on Mrs Crashers 9N Polo, after bringing them back to a glass like finish I used a touch up spray gun to mist a thin coat of Johnson’s Clear floor polish that I use in my model making, it is the old formula and I am jealously guarding my last four bottles, the new formula sucks…

    Thank you gentlemen

Crasher when you say a non DA rotary polisher, can you recommend a cheap one? Or is there an alternative way of doing it? Only asking as I’ll probably not use it for anything else

I bought mine about 30 years ago, it is a proper heavy duty made in Germany body shop mop as I used to do a lot of paint so I can't recommend anything. There are plenty of orbital (i.e. DA) polishers out there but not many pure rotary. A DA would do it, just very slowly. Using a rotary mop you have to be very cautious of heat build up, you can melt a cover in seconds.
