    Morning all again.

So as per title (and my "introduce yourself" post) I'm looking for an Audi A6 C6 Saloon, with a 4k absolute max budget.

So far, my mind is set on a Le Mans Edition, for obvious reasons, there's only Diesels available (no surprise), and I'm pretty set on a 3.0 TDI Quattro. The jury is still out as to whether to get a manual (pretty rare at my budget) or get a auto box.

I've clued myself up with knowledge on the Timing chain tensioner issues on the older, pre 07? cars, all other maintenance seems fairly similar to most other VAG cars. Is there any other issues the 3.0 TDI suffer from aside from possible DPF/EGR issues? the vast majority of my driving will be motorway/dual carriageways to and from work in London from the south coast.

So what I'm not really clued up on, is specs of cars, or perhaps options is better to say. I got myself a copy of the C6 brochure from the interweb, which gives me basic features of the S-Line car, and then the added extras on top for the Le Mans edition. Does anybody have any information on what spec MMI should I expect to find in this car? again, my budget is 4k absolute max, so I'm expecting a car aged between 56 to 57 plate, possibly 08 at a stretch. I know I could get 09 if I went down the 2.0 TDI route, but the allure of 3.0 TDI v6 and Quattro is just hitting the spot for me at the minute.

Is there any options I should look for on a C6? Bose system isn't a must, but if a car comes available with it, I wont complain, as likelihood I'd upgrade the speakers in a non Bose car.

I'd greatly appreciate any advice you guys can provide.

    Cheers, Chris.

What's the risk of buying at high mileage (179k) 3.0 TDI? I've read reports where these 3.0 TDI engine's would be lucky to make 100k, let alone 200k, I presume this is if you go down the long service interval route? I've not seen or read anything about failed engines though.

Surely these engine's would keep on going providing maintenance is kept up to a high standard as their chain driven?

Hey Chris it seems like you're heading in the direction, with the Audi A6 C6. If your budget allows I would recommend considering the 3.0 TDI Quattro model. It offers a balance of performance and reliability. Just keep in mind that diesel cars, especially when used for trips can have some common issues with the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system.

In terms of the MMI system the Le Mans edition should generally come with specifications compared to editions. However it's worth noting that specific features can vary depending on factors like the cars year and any additional options added by the owner.

If you're interested in an audio upgrade finding a model with the Bose sound system would be a bonus. Nonetheless without it Audis standard sound system still delivers quality.

Remember to take precautions when purchasing a vehicle—especially if it has mileage or known issues. Getting an inspection done is always a decision.

Best of luck, with your search!

I had an 07 A6, with the 3.0 TDI manual - it was the ASB engine had 200K on it and a recent report from the oil doctor gave the all clear. the ending for me was that i had money set aside to get the body work sorted and then the clutch went. 'er indoors was uneasy about the money for the bodywork on an old car with high millage, but once the clutch went that was that. I did drive it like i stole it everyday.

When i first bought it i had also looked at a le man, and that nearly put me off as it did not have any extras on it what so ever. The S line i got had all the toys. I changed to a younger Q5 with less than half the miles and i am still missing the A6, which had more toys.
A manual was a must for me.
the things i had to sort were -
a starting issue that I read up on where people had spent thousands swapping stuff out - turned out to be a £25 relay from Audi
swirl flap issue - again people spending big money swapping out manifolds - new link arms from Audi for less than £20 got it sorted for another 80K or so but the issue did come back, i got it them mapped out along with a stage 1, and that was the end of the clutch LOL
boost issue - this was the turbo actuator which i got another year out of by a strip clean and lub. I then got the actuator only changed at a reasonable cost - it was harder to find the right guy to do it.

I miss it greatly but at 200K I probably did get out just before it required a suspension rebuild, which is not easy or small money.
    I hope this helps.
