    Hi all,
I've just ordered and A6 and have been told that I have an expected build week of 50. I guess delivery wouldn't be until at least Jan/Feb. How does registration work, is the car registered once it arrives at the dealer? Only ask as I'd prefer to wait until Feb to get a 22 plate rather than 71?

Build week 50 would be W/C 7th December. It would take approximately 4-6 weeks, so it’s down to your dealer as to when it’s registered, usually that’s driven by you.

If you ask for it to be deferred for Feb for the new plate then you should be able to, BUT it’s worth checking with the dealer as there may have been additional incentives to you for Jan delivery.

As a side, I placed an order in May for Build Week 29 (13th July); that’s been pushed back to Week 36, but it’s unconfirmed so I’m expecting it to be pushed back further.

Great thanks! Good to know, I'll give them a call, but sounds like it's likely to be delayed anyway. The dealer mentioned something about a shortage of microchips

It will most likely be delayed. There is a global shortage of chips affecting the majority of manufacturers.

This means that stock is in short supply, so deals are not as good as they used to be. The dealers won’t be getting the kickbacks from Audi for not hitting volume, therefore they need to sell what they have at a higher price to overcome the shortfall in income.

I've just noticed this on the website, wasn't there when I went on last week. Must really be a big issue!

    Perfect storm….

Fire and Flood in a couple of the few global chip manufacturers. Leaving limited production capacity available.

Automotive sector has screwed the price per chip right down.

Throw in a pandemic where the world is WFH and the demand for consumer electronics skyrockets, manufacturers produce the components that make the most $, automotive with their low cost sit below the likes of Apple, Samsung etc that will pay that.
