    Hey All

I've noticed some rattle/noise when i start the car and it persists for a fair bit of time. Usually until engine is completely warm and run in before it disappears. Can not notice anything with windows up but when driving with windows down it is definitely noticable and it sorta goes away if i were to give it bit acceleration?

Its a 2016 272 Tdi Quattro with 70k miles on the clock.

I will be taking it to nearby garage for them to give it a once over but I am dreading what they'll say if it is what i think it is.

Any experts to lend their opinion on this one?

    Thanks

With mine being 5yr old and at 70k there's no warranty to fall back on. I haven't seen any recall work for this either unless I'm wrong. Taking it to the guy for him to run test tomorrow and he says it's either cams or tensioner. Will be about 3k for it to be done.

3K?? He does realise it is gearbox out doesn't he? I had a quick look at the hugely optimistic Audi time, 30 hours.

He did mention that it's involving dropping the engine to do any of that work. He is ex Audi mechanic and mentioned that they did a couple every other week under warranty.

The book of words ELSA WIN instructs to remove the box, it is the way we do it, far less invasive.

I would certainly be inclined to check out oil pressure both cold & running temperature. My school of though on this would be if your timing chain/tensioner was at fault your timing would rattle 24/7 hot or cold
