    Hello all,

Just joined the forum, this is my first post.

Purchased a B6 Passat yesterday from a friend, it is the 140PD 6-speed version - no DPF.

Ive had a couple of the PD engines before and was always amazing for fuel consumption.

1 thing I noticed with this is the bad mpg (about 28mpg town driving and low 30s on the motorway), been reading about the coolant temp sensors (this explains the car struggling to start) but can this also give you such bad mpg - been looking through the forums and some say yes and some say no. Ive got a new sensor arriving tomorrow so we will see. Filled the tank and the estimated mileage was 360miles for a full tank (my previous 150PD Leon used to do about 650 miles to a tank). It has also already had a new fuel filter.

Just wondering if anyone else has had an issue like this? Also if I should be looking for something diffferent.

Thanks guys, this forum looks a great place to be.

Could be a number of things:-

Dirty / contaminated fuel system (oil often finds its way into the fuel system on PD engined cars).
Weak / failing in tank fuel draw pump (common issue)
Tandem pump internal leak causing oil / fuel to mix
    Dirty / poor functioning injectors
Exhaust cam timing not set properly (lengthy process to set it)
Injector strike clearance not set optimally
Dirty EGR / poor EGR functionality

Is the non DPF as a result of it being a model without one or deleted? A number of cars with deleted DPF / EGR emissions parts function badly later on in life.

It will be a BKP engine so EU4 no DPF. What was the fuel filter like when you took it out? Have you done a code read?
