    Hi All,

    Golf Mk4 VR6 24valve 4motion 2003 Where does this pipe go?

I removed the large pipe from the airbox to the throttle body and on the breather pipe that goes to the top of of the cam cover I spotted a pipe hanging down (it is the little thin one at the end of my finger), wondering where it should go to?

That has come off the back of the inlet manifold, it is a vacuum source line for the breather system. On the BDE engine I had a number of these where the fitting broke off the back of the inlet manifold.

Sorry, just seen your pic, apologies. As crasher says, comes off one of the two connectors as the back right (if facing engine) of the inlet manifold. I have two 2003 BDEs, one has it blocked off at both ends (i.e. plastic pipe and inlet manifold), the other has it in place. Go figure!

    hi, sorry for delay.
On closer inspection, it would appear that one or more PO had modified them, as the two pipes in the two cars are different! I have included pics of both. I suspect you may have the "instance 2" version, but really cant be sure for you. They are all vacuum lines off the inlet manifold, so should connect somewhere, otherwise you might find you have idling issues....and others

Instance one (blocked off with a screw)

Instance two (not blocked off, but black plastic pipe has small connection point in the underside, right next to TB; instance one pipe didn't have that connector, both BDE engines of same year...)

WOW totally confused!! Mine actually looks like your version 1 with the stub on the inlet manifold being blanked off, but the vacuum pipe it self just left hanging in mid air!

Thanks so much for the photos ETC but as per my other post re VVT units ETC!!

    hi!
The "middle" stub on the inlet manifold is stoppered on both instances....
In your pic, the flexi is coming from the small underside connection the black plastic tube as I have in pic 3 of instance 2, I think? How long is the flexi, that should give you a clue! Does it reach all the way to fuel pressure regulator (front right of the engine) see pic, but I suspect not. It has to be either the back of the TB, or the back of the inlet manifold, stretch it out to ~75% full length and see where it reaches!
