Hello to all VAG owners, fans and supporters here!! I'm a newbie here and I am just looking for some advice on buying an Audi A4 B8 2.0 TDI .
This is the model that I really like and have my mind set on but I don't know much about them. I have had a few VW Golfs over the years but I'm sure there are some differences between them and the Audi not to mention the age gap.

Im looking for something around 180bhp but would like to know which models of engines are the most tuneable or easiest & safest to remap etc without causing any problems.

I'm looking at 2008 upwards with an approx price bracket of £3000 ‐ £7000 depending on the specs etc.

I would like to know a bit about the different engines that fall into this category and also if there front wheel drive or 4 wheel drive etc.

Reliability and common issues are something else I would like to know about aswell as how hard is it to find spare parts (from breakers/dismantlers) for the specific models that fall into this category. I don't want something that's going to be hard to find replacement parts for. I'm thinking of buying a 140bhp (or is it 137bhp or 143bhp??) as they are probably more common than the higher power versions, and remapping it to around 180 or a little higher if its safe and won't cause issues. But hopefully someone here can advise me on this.

If anyone can help me out with this I would appreciate it very much. Thanks

Ps. If moderators can find a more suitable section for this topic please feel free to move this there! Thanks

If you want a B8 and want to tune it you'd be better going for the 2.7tdi or the 3.0tdi. you'd soon find yourself wanting too much from the 2 litre engine and running gear.

Mine is the 177PS Quattro model (175BHP) with 7 speed s-tronic, 85k on the clock now. It's had a replacement EGR under warranty and wheel bearing also under warranty.

It's got a decent amount of power for my liking (book speed of 7.6s 0-60) and the gearbox is very smooth. I had multitronic on both my previous cars and the gearboxes failed on both to hence getting S-tronic this time.

For tuning, i bought a tuning box and ran it for an hour, then out it straight back on eBay. There's millions of threads about how safe etc these things are, but my conclusion is that if you want something fast, buy something that was designed for it from the start! A remap would almost certainly be the better option if you really wanted do and don't mind the ECU flag.

With regards to getting parts, I have to say I don't find it to be the easiest if you want to do the work yourself. I could previously get parts from TPS but my local one insists on only selling to garages now.

Quattro is a nice to have but for daily use it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. The times I've found it most useful is parking or driving through muddy fields where my 2WD A6 would get stuck, no fear of that in a quattro.
