Engine starting issue

Hi, firstly thanks in advance.

I have had a problem with starting my car for a while but only intermittent like once a week. When starting engine, it turns but fails to start and Glow plug light comes on, also sometimes the engine turns a few times before starting. But on second attempt always started.

However, recently on holiday it wouldn't start, tried about 15 times, then waited for 5 mins then started. Following day I went to Euro car parts and replaced all Glow plugs. Car was fine for 2 days and then back to dodgy starting again but not like the time it took 15 goes.

Battery was changed a year ago so can't be that.
I ran Carista and there were other minor faults like ABS etc but all fine after clearing. There was one code which is 04096 which I'm not sure about

Any ideas what could be causing this??

You need a proper code read and which year/engine?

It's a 2012 2.0 diesel engine.
