Need to replace broken exhaust from centre to back muffllers on my 2.0 avant tfsi S line. lots of ones that appear identical on certain auction site but they all seem to come from 2.0 tdi saloon or avant models. the centre baffle boxes have the same part numbers but rear boxes have part no 4F0253612R while mine are 4F0253612S. The exhausts appear identical in their layout and muffler shape but the R version back boxes are for diesel and the S version are for the petrol I assume. Any reason why I cant use the diesel exhaust on my petrol? Any info much appreciated.

i wouldn't have thought you could - the exhaust has to provide some back pressure and i don't need to point out diesel and petrol are very different.
That said, from memory the letter designation on the end of a part number is a revision I think, something minor.
Hopefully someone will be along who can say for sure - if you search for it in 7 zap it will list what cars it is used on, that could be worth a go for both numbers?

The numbers you quote are not part numbers for spare part identification, they are internal production numbers that just happen to be identical in format to a spare part number, a rear silencer spare part number ends in 609. If you PM me the cars reg I will tell you what the numbers should be.

The centre pipe is 4F0 253 409 J, this is unique to the 2005>2008 4F with the BPJ engine and front wheel drive, manual or auto, they retail at £425.76 from Audi. The right rear silencer is 4F0 253 610 D at £521.10 and the right is 4F0 253 609 D at £528.13 and are unique to the BPJ with manual transmission. You would also need the dual clips 1K0 253 141 G at £30.46 and 2 x 1K0 253 141 F at £29.59 each. If the tailpipe trims cannot be reused you would need 2 x 4F0 253 681 B at £123.66 each and 2 x clamps 8E0 253 139 at £31.20 each so £1874.17 plus there may be a few mounts required depending on condition so allow £165 for those and their fasteners; if the mounts fail and damage the new exhaust, the warranty is invalid AND the warranty only stands if the parts are fitted by a VAT registered garage. We did an A5 the other day with a Jetex as the genuine system was daft money. As far as I can see only http://www.fennosteel.com list the parts as "in preparation". There are a few listings for discounted "genuine" parts on fleaBay but bear in mind that being not purchased from an Audi dealer, these are not covered by the AUDI dealer warranty.
