My previous car (A4 3.0 TDI) and present car (A5 2.0 TFSI) have been on flexible service intervals from new, and I'm used to that ...

Because of pandemic hassle (no courtesy cars, no pickup drivers, wanting to avoid busses) I actually changed my own oil for the first time ever last time it was due.

Anyway, it came round to inspection mileage (actually 1,000 over but hey) so I booked it in yesterday, told them it doesn't need oil/filter change, they didn't tell me it needed additional items, I had to tell them what it needed (sparks, dsg oil change, brake fluid change), all were done ok, bit pricey £677.

Before I left, I asked if it was going to need anything extra at the next service and they were a bit vague and said "maybe auxilliary belt" until I pointed out it had that replaced at the same time as the starter/alternator recall was done.

When I got home, I checked the MMI and they've put it onto fixed interval, 9400 miles/1 year to both the next inspection and the next oil change, I used longlife IV oil and it still had about 15k miles to go for oil when I took it in. I phoned them and they said drop it round and they'll change it back to variable interval "if that's what you want, sir".

Seems like they now regard it as up to them how often my wallet needs opening? I intend to keep doing my own oil changes now, maybe it's also time for it to go to a decent non-dealer for services now?
Does anyone know if independents can update the Audi electronic service record? I presume not ...

To end on a positive note, for decades now I don't expect a service to make a car feel any different, but the new sparks have made made a big difference to how keen it is to pull away

Yes actually most independents can update your digital service history (I also just asked in the forum).
They need to have access to Audi erWin and it will update in your MyAudi app too
