    i have a mk5 golf 1.9tdi bxe engine.

The temp gauge in the car maxes out at the 75⁰ mark. The cooling fans never come on to cool.

The car gets warm quick and never overcools, maintains constant hot at the heater fan.

I replaced the 2 coolant sensors & thermostat a while ago. all were genuine vag parts from tps.

What can i check to find out the cause of the issue?

When i drove the car yesterday on the motorway for 30 miles it didn't overheat or overcool.

I took a temp reading in a few places and below are just a couple of those. The car has no error codes.

    coolant pipe by thermostat 73⁰
coolant pipe by fuel pump 76⁰
    top of radiator 71⁰
top of engine block above thermostat was 93⁰

If you identify the sensor responsible for the gauge what does the temp reading say there?
sounds as if it’s reading right looking at some of those temps.
cant really explain why it would be running cooler though if the stat was a genuine item.

The gauge should read 90 by a real 77 and still read 90 at 116 so to me the gauge is faulty, this can be checked using VCDS or similar in output test where the gauges (all of them) should go full scale deflection, minimum reading and the half way and stay there.

The cooling fan (fans) has to be controlled so that allows the engine to maintain a constant temperature and is solely controlled by the ecu .Which gets input from the engine coolant temperature sensor I would start by checking out wiring from coolant temp sensor load testing to ecu pin out nos

I assume by engine temp sensor you're referring the one above the gearbox? rather than generic terminology.

Do you know what number pins at the ecu that sensor corresponds to?

I cannot read electric diagrams but can follow/understand wiring instructions
