    Ok so I was origanlly after the estate version of this car from 2004, however they are too expensive. So I am having to purchase the saloon model(vw passat tdi 130 sport)

    Is there anything I should know pertaining to the reliability and performance of this car.

    What should I get MPG wise?

    I bought my car with 77k on it 13 months ago and have put 20k on it since and have only changed tyres and had a service.

    I think the car is hard on tyres, but other than that check;

    Gearchange when cold - make sure its smooth.

    Make sure acceleration is smooth without stuttering and hesitation.

    Make sure all the accessories function.

    Check the carpets for damp.

    Oh and I achieve around 50MPG even in cold weather

    Hi

    See my thread "costly Passat" its the most expensive VW i've owned and i've done around 500k in 10 years in most of them. Its a great car but there's too much goes wrong with them, mine was 1 owner full VWSH and only 62k when bought - i've spent 2k this year and only done 10,000 miles. I may well have been unlucky though. The TDi 130 SE is as good but cheaper to insure than a Sport. Reading these threads should give you a feel of what to look out for / expect. As always buy with history, and with care.i

    I feel for you Zola25, but I don't think an SE is as good as a Sport..

    For one reason off the top of my head - the suspension doesn't give as good a ride.

    Hi,

    Well ive had my tdi sport for 3 years now on a 52 plate, the engine pulls like a train as said before, The quality of the seats are not as good as the 1998 se I had previously. I feel the build quality is not as good overall.The sport has proved very reliable tho, some times have trouble getting reverse but get there in the end.All the electrics are very reliable,no water ingress on mine upto now,had 470 miles to tank and also 650 to tank on very long run so fuel varies a lot. The alloy wheels look great on the sport but make sure they are not flaking when you buy, otherwise £50 quid a wheel for re spray.The suspension is rock hard so if you like a soft ride get a SE, with the sport you feel the road.The overall finish of the car looks better than the b5 with bits of chrome and chrome boot struts,The paint job imho is first class I would recommend a b5 point 5, very easy car to sell aswell
