Just noticed today that when I am turning the ignition off after driving, I feel a good shake of the engine. After couple of local trips today I see the check engine light came on. I have a Bluetooth obd adapter and scanned the error codes using car scanner app. Here is what I got. Can someone please tell me if there is any obvious fault? I cleared the codes now. The engine light is gone, but I can still feel the shake when stopping. Don't feel it while idling though.

I also have some electrical issues which needs sorting out.

    Date of production 19.10.2006

    Year 2007

    Sales type 4F20AC

    Engine Code BRE

    Transmission Code GYX

    Exterior colour paint code LZ5D

That will be a failed V157 motor on the inlet manifold after the boost pipe and before the EGR valve, part number 03G 128 063 J and £673.89 from Audi…

You can get the OE Continental/VDO/Pierburg unit for a lot less but be wary of cheap copies, it is an important part

Hi @Crasher, thanks very much for the info. I found the Pierberg one in carparts4less for £182. Considering fitting it myself.

I looked in the bonnet today and can see some oil residue under the egr valve. I feel there could be a leak, but I don't see any oil under the car.

I recently had timing belt snapped while driving (only having done around 30k miles since last change) and the following work was done.

Timing belt and water pump, tensioner bolt new Thread insert in the engine, rocker arm on one valve, injector, camshaft sensor and turbo pipe. EGR valve was also replaced about an year ago.

Could the leak and inlet manifold be a related problem?

On a separate note, I also have some electrical problems which needs sorting too. I spent about £2000 recently on repairs and getting worried if this pattern will keep going. The car has done 175k miles and the resale value seems to be around £500. Is this time to let it go ?

The oil under the EGR valve isn’t an oil leak as such, it is condensed oil vapour in the charge air system escaping via the spindle seals and when changing the V157 you nearly take the EGR valve off and it is not silly money aftermarket so chance to get the inlet tract nice and clean and reliable for the rest of its life until some idiot politician influenced by a minority of screaming heads bans the internal combustion engine completely.

Thank you very much @Crasher. This is the first time I will be attempting mechanical work on my car. I have seen a YouTube video and understand that there are 3 bolts, an electrical connection and the turbo pipe to disconnect. The bolts will need to be tightened to 10nm torque. Any precautions I need to take for the job?

Also do you think if trying to clean the old part is an option or is replacing the only option?

Don't drop the tool or the bolts, they will land on the engine under tray and to get that off the car has to be quite high up plus the moment you disconnect the hose or the EGR valve, plug the holes with big bright coloured clean cloth so you don't drop anything in there which would make a nasty mess of the engine... Of course make sure you remove the cloths just before reassembly and keep account of how many cloths so you don't think "did I remove that cloth?"
