Hi guys, I have been having electrical issues with my Audi A6 for the past few months. I have a new Varta I1 battery installed in Jan 2020. The battery keeps draining very quickly and I needed Jump start a few times in the last week. I do keep a trickle charger connected to the battery most of the time which shows it's fully charged, but after a couple of local trips I need a jump start.

When the car doesn't start, I see Glow Plugs, ABS, Parking brake sensors warnings on my dashboard. As soon as jump cables are connected, these warnings disappear. Also I get intermittent warnings that my front fog light and rear brake light are gone. Any one know what could be wrong? Will replacing the battery fix my issue or I have other problems? The battery is quite new, but during the pandemic, it was completely drained a couple of times after which I started trickle charging it.

PS: Not sure if this is related, but I had a front fog light error in December and got it repaired at a garage. He said it was a wiring issue and some how sorted it. After that I noticed that my reverse light is always on. I still didn't get this fixed.

Battery Voltage readings: 13.45V immediately after trickle charger removed. 12.76V after 1 hour.

Without any voltage reading to go by, I would say your battery is goosed.

When batteries are left flat for a period, the plates sulphate which severely degrades their capacity.

@philipharmes I did take couple of readings today. Immediately after I removed the trickle charger, the reading on the battery was 13.45V. After 1 hour, the reading is 12.76V. Does this help?

I called Tayna batteries where I bought the battery in last Jan. Based on the readings I gave them 12.76V at 1PM and 12.70V at 2:45PM, they said the battery is fine and I may have some issue with the wiring in the car causing a drain. Can someone advise what my options are? Not looking for expensive repairs as my car is only valued at £350 when I tried to trade in recently .

I got the battery tested in a nearby shop. Report below. Is the battery dead?

@Crasher, never had water in the car. It is a 2006 Audi A6.

I did send out the little printout from the battery testing to Tayna Batteries and they have immediately responded that I am being sent a brand new one as replacement. Excellent customer service. I think this is because it shows that the measured Amperes is less than 1/3rd of the actual.

Once I get the battery, I need to sort out the other electrical issues I have been having. The list keeps growing....
    1. reverse lights on even when not in reverse.
    2. front phone port not working.
    3. rear phone charging port intermittent on/off.
    4. Incorrect intermittent bulb failure errors on the dashboard.

    Just re-read your last post

Although the voltage look quite good, the capacity is poor.

On your printed report under Battery Test it says Replace Battery.

The test reports battery Rating 900A, battery Measured 288A, so it is less than 1/3d its original capacity.

If you send that report to Tayna they may give you a discount on a new battery.
