Thanks mate, I used the car registration to get the original one! Seems I'll have to be careful in future.

Here’s the multimeter reading from the G62 socket. So there’s something going to the sensor

However as you can see, the temp sensor reading is incredibly erratic. If the car has a reading surely this means it’s either the sensor or ECU is the issue?

I have never seen an ECU show the temp like that, it has to be the ECU.

It would seem the most likely wouldn't it, ruled out a dodgy connection. A quick scan and I've seen some plug and play BKD ECU's online, would you recommend this?

I can see the point and can’t really imagine the lack of security is going to be an issue but I have given up with used parts almost entirely as I have had so much trouble and lost so much time but replacing your ECU the correct way would be daft money, around £1800 so on an old Fuel Of The Devil car, not sensible. We had an A3 in on Friday of the same vintage and it was ******* out, messed with and basically FUBAR so we advised him to scrap it; in fact that was two older Diesel cars we advised owners to scrap that day… apparently scrapping 12 year old cars is going to “save the planet”, my own 18 year old car is ULEZ compliant and in perfect condition with 200k miles on it and is going nowhere!

Well it’s running at a normal temperature, I’ve got a couple of genuine sensors which I’ll fit with the proper thermostat on Tuesday. Might just leave it at that then, would a remap do anything?

Ha. For an electric vehicle which will no doubt create more emissions in making the batteries etc than keeping an older one going would...

We are being fed a pile of **** over electric cars but the “die is cast” and there is nothing anyone can do about us handing ourselves to China on a plate… I hope I live long enough to see the protagonists of our demise swing.
