    Hi chaps,

I've had a check engine light come on. I've used my carista app which gave me a P0117
    P0117.jpg
I have issues with a long crank when starting the car. However, I've changed the Engine coolant temperature sensor and it still throws up this code (even after a reset)
If I disconnect the plug from the sensor it throws up P0118 (And starts easier)

The app says the Engine coolant temp is 139 degrees (Obviously wrong)

I'm at a loss what to do?
    (Thanks in advance)

    Update

Still have a long crank which I believe to be a worn starter

Temperature gauge fluctuates massively, goes from 90 down to 50, to 75 etc
    Both sensors have been changed
    Thermostat has been changed
    P0117 code still there
Checked the wiring from the sensor, and can’t find any breaks

At a loss as what to do next?

Have you viewed the live data of the temperature in the engine, HVAC and instruments to see if you get the same wild variations as the gauge is showing?

    Thanks for the reply

Yeah the live data is all over the gaff according to my app (I've attached a pic)
    Don't understand what HVAC is?

    Cheers

Have you tested the continuity of the wires from the G62 to the ECU? The signal is sent to the other controllers on the CAN BUS so if the sensor and wiring are good then it is the ECU corrupting the signal.

I've followed them to the port (not sure of the official term, has a ton of wires into it on the right hand side of the engine), the wiring is wrapped and follows around the engine after that, should I take the black protetive tape off to continue the check? I've ordered a multimeter to test the voltage etc.

    Update

Whilst on a short drive on the motorway, I noticed the temperature pushing 130. As I slowed to 60 or so it went back down to 90-100
On stopping at home, the coolant was boiling in the coolant resevoir. Sticking hand on the outside of the tank and it's ridiculously hot. You can hear the coolant boiling in the pipes on the right hand side of the engine after I switch the engine off
There's no oil with the coolant and nothing but oil on the bottom of the oil cap, so don't think it's the gasket.

Checked the radiator pipes. The top one was absolutely roasting and the bottom one was air temperature
My radiator fans also work, they'll come on when the car ignition is on

Edit Ran car with top hose to coolant resevoir off and coolant cap off, good flow of water

If you can see flow it is unlikely to be the water pump, which make of thermostat did you fit?
