    Hi guys,

Having an issue with my Golf, basically it started with a lightish vibration at higher speeds (60-70+) I lived with it for a little while until it killed my wheel bearing, up on inspection my driveshaft boot was split and some grease had come out but not a huge amount. By this time it had turned into a bit more of a noticeable rumbling shaking feeling under the drivers footwell.

I decided to replace the Wheel bearing and the outer CV joint, but the rumbling continued, I then tried replacing the whole driveshaft but this didn’t improve things either so I’m now thinking it’s not the driveshaft at all.

I’m going to try rotating the wheels front to back tomorrow and see how that is but honestly I don’t think it feels like unbalanced wheels.

It’s kinda driving me mad now and it sometimes causes the turbo to cut out under load as it feels like it’s struggling to accelerate the faster you’re going.

Any ideas what could be going on ?

    Thanks

Feels like it’s something closer to the wheels to me, it’s had new clutch and flywheel less than 20k ago

    Have you checked the suspension?

Any play in any of the ball joints? Or wishbone rubber mounts? Are they good? Not perished or torn?

    Are the wheels balanced correctly?

    Is the tracking spot on?

Tyres good? And correct size and matching?

Is the spring on the strut ok? Strut leaking? Top mount ok?

Wheel bolts torqued up correctly? Mating faces cleaned?

Might also be a warped disc or bad calipers?

So I rotated the wheels front to back today, didnt change anything so I don’t think it’s an issue with the wheels, checked them all for buckles or missing wheel weights etc everything looks in good order.

Took it for a long drive today down the dual carriageway and noticed after driving for a while the steering felt like it stiffened up even after coming back down to lower speeds which is strange, something is obviously not right.

I’m going to check over the front end suspension again tomorrow hopefully, I did already check for play in the wheels and couldn’t find anything but I could do with checking all the bushes etc so I’ll give that a go and report back.

Perhaps the steering rack is bad?

Have you done a scan for fault codes?
