Sometime ago I asked about my sons A6
Where it kept draining the battery and stopping during a run to clear the cobwebs etc. and would not restart etc.
Asked and found a guy in our area with the knowledge and equipment to check and trace the problem.
But had to pass as he had personal problems, but recommended a local garage.

They found the main reason for not running/starting as excessive corrosion under the ECU etc.
Once the corrosion etc was sorted the car would start and run.

But some weeks down the line having found the Head Unit to be faulty with no radio/satnav etc etc.
They not having done anything with the car since, now tells him the car needs a replacement head unit.
My son located a working head unit and passed this onto the garage to fit.

Before leaving the car at this garage, the question was asked if they were familiar with Audi issues: Yes no problems.

Is the head unit a difficult item to fit, whats involved in fitting it and is it likely to cure the problem. Told its in the glove box where sd card for maps, like a cd player. ?
    Thanks

The MMI head unit is generally not the problem, the usual issue is water in the left rear corner getting onto the radio receiver which then starts to cause a parasitic drain and finally blows the fuse which is for the display in the dash, controller in the glove and radio receiver. The controller is available as an exchange unit from Audi under part number 4E0 035 652 EX and costs £2532.66 inc VAT plus installation and coding BUT it is usually the radio to blame (I have a growing pile on my desk) and this is also available exchange under a revised part number of and cost £858.29 plus installation and coding. These are both VIP’s (Vehicle Intelligent Parts) and have to be ordered by the cars VIN. When installed the new unit has to be matched to the vehicle and the instal status updated on the Audi server in Germany and this includes used parts so GEKO security access is required via ODIS or a suitable pass through diagnostic system.
