When used at a constant high load, such as on a motorway, the PD TDI engine such as the AWX and AVF is prone to blowing coolant out of the expansion tank due to head gasket failure.

I can see the reg now and on my system it shows as being an AVF, if these only blow coolant out of the tank under load such as motorway use, then in my experience it is always head gasket failure.

I had the same issue for ages, though it was head gasket but confirmed it wasn't with a sniff test. Check the coolant sensor on the back of the engine block that can weep. Mine was a leaking radiator Rad weld never fixed it you'll have to replace it. It was leaking both ends but couldn't be seen until it was removed. I also found a small leak coming from the sensor built in to the underside of the expansion tank.
    Hope this helps.

Not in your case but with a PD TDI the sniff test is not a reliable indicator of head gasket failure as it only shows up under constant hard load which is difficult to replicate in the workshop
