    Hi,

In need of assistance and would appreciate some helpful suggestions. I own a pre-facelift ultra s-tronic avant that has covered 95k miles relatively faultlessly. Audi replaced the front pads and discs in February this year and all seemed good until April time when I encountered the following:

    1. Slight judder when braking hard,
    2. Vibration through the front of the car when travelling at 60 and above. The vibration worsens with speed and can still be felt although dampened when coming off the power.

To add, not sure if this is related but the gear changes appear clunkier at lower speeds.

I don’t think it’s wheel balancing issue as I had the fronts checked.

Any ideas on what else this might be?

    Hi
i would possibly look at either driveshaft imbalance and the flywheel. A good gearbox specialist might be able to help with the flywheel diagnosis. Also try a local indy.

Could be warped discs caused by warped hubs, a failing wheel bearing, a bent wheel or faulty tyre(s). What make re the tyres?

If they are young ish they should not be the problem, I would have the wheels checked for runout and the discs too.

I'm with Crasher on that one. Until recently I only had Audi genuine discs/pads on both my A4 and the A6, but I had the same thing happen on both the A4 and the A6 - the two halves of the brake disk separated. It was enough to have some freewheeling between the two halves and they would "bind" as they hit each other while rotating creating a sensation not unlike vibration and an noise not unlike a wheel-bearing on the way out. Put your foot on the brakes and if you were lucky they bit flat and you braked normally, if not there was a fair bit of noise and judder.

Interestingly, front passenger side on both cars was the one that failed....not that they are handed....so something weird, or I'm a very selective vandal
