So, took her today to the local Audi for brake fluid & gearbox oil change, as well as the MOT...
Since the beginning, I was doing the MOT with Audi because of the added insurance they had. Well, never again!
The first phone call: hello sir, we changed the fluids but your car cannot pass the MOT as you've got a fuel leak. Ha! That got me going - the leak has been fixed. There might have been something somewhere left underneath the car but no leak!!! After an interesting conversation, she said: I'll check with the technician...
Two hours later, the second call:hi sir, yes, we checked, there is no leak but your car cannot pass the MOT as your indicators are not working?!?!? Please come as we'll have to order the parts, blah, blah, blah and you cannot drive it away!!!
Of course, I went there furious as it was all well and good on my way there.
So, the only thing apparently not working was the left mirror repeater. And she tried to convince me that the car needs to stay and they have to order the part. I was quoted £260!!!!!!!!
That did not go well. Then the best part: what about my MOT insurance, I asked?
"Errr I'm new here, let me check"... And a consultation later she produces "we stopped doing it some time ago, yours "expired" in 2019?!?!?!
That was the end of me being polite.

    The outcome:
    1. I was not charged the MOT and the fail has not been registered;
    2. My left mirror one works but there's a warning on the dash that it failed - how it magically happened whilst the car was there I don't know.
    3. I ordered a brand new original Audi one for £18.95!!! (and it is a 10 minute job to replace it).
    4. I booked a local MOT in a week for £30 (so the fix & MOT will actually be £1 cheaper than what I would have paid for the MOT only)
    5. Audi MOT never again.

That sounds like the service plan which now magically excludes most things except the oil and filter change plus the inspection. By mistake they sent me the "lost sale analysis" sheet with my paperwork when I said no to replacing brake pads which were 60% worn and tyres with 4mm left on them.

I moved from one dealer to another to get away from the poor front of house staff, making me feel like a thief every time I wanted them to do something for me because my car wasn't the latest model and I was asking for items to be coded that were provided by an independent but bought legitimately through Audi. New dealer is great and listens to what needs to be done and comes up with a fair price. Luckily I sit between two dealerships so the distance is no different but I will move again if needed as there are some good independents in the area, but currently dealing with realists, so long may it continue.

I have never even heard of one of those, as a VAG garage business partner I could not think of instigating something so cynical; that they even have such a procedure is vial.

Dealerships are about rinsing you of cash as quickly as possible. They are very cynical in that regard. It is all geared toward the company car or PCP owner who doesn't keep the car longer than 2 or 3 years. If you own your car, and keep it longer than this, then inevitably things start going wrong, and this is where they recoup revenue.

I hate the whole experience, from booking the car in - you get a call centre, to chasing for updates etc etc.

I will see the dealer for stuff like gearbox oil changes, the rest gets done by a trusted indie for half the price. Pretty soon I think that most dealerships will be service depots only with sales moving forward exclusively online, not a bad thing as most people don't like being ignored or sneered at just for walking through the door.

In many retail businesses companies tend to make a gross profit of approx 50% or more, much more in may cases. In the retail motor trade a main dealer will make approx 5% gross IF they don't give too much discount, where they make their money is on selling finance which is why new car dealers hate cash buyers, especially those who ask for a discount; they may as well not bother! The other two earners are maintenance and especially used cars sales.
