Hi I have a 2017 A6 MW67 XNL, front wheel drive. It has just reached 38K and I want to do the DSG gearbox service. According to Audi I have the SVC type gearbox.

I have read so many threads on this and 2 dealers have given me conflicting information.

Can anyone advise of the oil quantity or a guide for servicing this type of gearbox?

    Does it have a filter?

Do you need VCDS and to reach a specific temp before checking the level?

What else is needed, if anything, to complete this service?

    Thanks in advance

    Nick

I have the older type of gearbox and you need VCDS to check the oil temp etc. Looking at doing it myself in the last and to be honest it’s just not worth it by the time you add the cost’s up. Audi offer a fixed price on this so might be worth getting it done there. Expensive repair if done wrong

Totally with you - with the cost per litre of the oil and the amount of faffing, nobody I know that could do it does it themselves. Even my indy says for that take it to the dealers as it's not worth his time to do the work what with the price of the oil etc.

At around £225 it really is not worth trying to DIY. Also the work will be good for 12 months…

I live in Kent all the dealers and from the same company, cost is £280. Closest London dealer is £205! The cost of the oil depending on whether it needs 5 or 7L is £10 per litre! If it needs a filter that would cost about £7.

If it is just a case of draining the oil [I think the versions that do not have a filter the cost of materials is £50] and does not need any sort of VCDS adaptations then I would rather do it myself as I would leave draining over a weekend and extract far more oil than Audi would! I like doing simple things myself and loathe paying a dealer for something I can do myself.

To give further example a basic oil service is about £200 at a dealer. I do it myself costs about £50 and I change it every 10K.

Can anyone give me some specific advice please? If it is more complex happy to have a dealer do it.

    Thanks

    Nick

Hi I assume you are talking about, Motorline, as the main dealership in kent. They did mine last November for £225, depending on where you are in kent, there is AudiTec between Canterbury and Dover, a very good indi who sorted out a strange clutch problem on my TT, might be worth a call if they are near you…

I'm with you on this one Nick I do all my own servicing and was going to attempt this job but I'm not sure if it is worth the hassle.
What I would like to know does it have a time limit ie 38,000 miles / ? years. I bought mine in Sep 2016 and now have 19,000 miles on the clock so it may take me another 4-5 years to reach 38k. I don't have much faith in my local dealer, the car has only been to them for the first service. I supplied the oil and filter and they couldn't even replace three screws on the undertray properly, six months later I found two loose and the third missing, but Hey Ho that's the the way it goes sometime.
I have also searched for the procedure and there seems to be quite a few different gearbox types my gearbox code is RLB and I haven't seen this one mentioned anywhere.
Good luck with your search and please keep us posted with your decision.
    Geoff.

Pay for an hour on Erwin and download the instructions for this and as many other thinks you need. Pretty sure you need VCDS and a special ‘tool’ that dispense the oil into the top of gearbox from within the engine bay. It gives an exact amount and then you check with VCDS and add a further x amount.

I do all my own servicing as you but leave the gearbox to the dealer. Cost of service once you factor in parts is only about £100 way less than a new gearbox which would make my car beyond economical repair to be honest.
